Magic 8 Ball: Signs Point to No?
This afternoon, I received a call from WorkSafeBC/WCB… The phone call didn’t go according to what I’d hoped…
I was envisioning/hoping the call going along the lines of them recognizing my injury as work related, then offering me assistance in recovery, (seeing a neurosurgeon quicker, money, whatever).
Instead it was the Spanish Inquistion. Questions, questions, questions. Rephrasing of questions. Asking different questions that were obvious because I had answered them with the other questions.
The bottom line is this..
It’s not looking hopeful. It’s all counting on two of my co-workers statements. One, Syd, who is a good friend of mine now, who remembers me telling him about the reinjury. And the other, is my trainee from that day. Unfortunately, he didn’t see me hurt my back, and probably can only confirm that I was having difficulties..
The thing that really annoyed me was that the lady on the phone would ask me something about the reinjury, but I needed to explain the first injury, that is over 2 years old and (according to WCB) not really a factor. Not only that, she’d ask a question, but not wait for the full answer before moving onto the next one..
In the end, I was left with the impression that I don’t have much of a claim, according to them. She did offer to investigate it further for me. It all comes down to two of my co-workers though….
Yeah, this sounds like the usual WSIB drill. I hated working with them at my old job. They’ll find any reason they can to not pay out.
