Take It Back

Published by Cameron at 8:44 pm under Health, Work

On October 29th, I had my final appeal with WCB.  With a slim chance of having a decision in my favour at this point, I had accepted that the matter was essentially over.

Until today…

I won my appeal with WorkSafeBC! A very rare event, but the WCAT decided that I was entitled to benefits.

So, what this means for me is this..

  1. My back injury is recognized as a workplace injury.  With (most likely) another 30 years left of my life to work, this is a VERY good thing to have documented in the event that something happens again.
  2. I should receive the difference between what I was getting from my disability benefits and what I should have been getting on WCB.

I don’t know at this point what this means beyond this.  I’m just happy that someone has finally recognized that I was hurt while working and should be compensated for it.  Just because I didn’t document things in a timely manner does not mean it didn’t happen.

So, it apparently does pay to fight back when you are initially denied your claim!  Yaay me!
